Gear & Equipment Season 8

Season 8 : Far East

27 October 2024

A new season of Itchy Boots: Season 8! This season is going to be an interesting one - mostly because I only have a vague idea about what my final destination will be, and an even vaguer idea of how to get there. That makes for tricky planning in terms of gear, so for now I have focused on the weather conditions I am expecting for the first leg of the journey, and take it from there.

In this blog I am sharing the gear & equipment that I’ll carry with me this season.

Clothing - REV’IT!

I’ve been a REV’IT! Ambassador for many years now and I absolutely love the Dirt Series line of adventure clothing. This gear is lightweight, comfortable and flexible and CE certified so that means it’s safe to wear on tarmac too.

This season I am wearing the new body protector: the Nucleus Protector jacket. Because I will be crossing some high mountains, I am bringing the Component 2 H2O jacket.(This jacket has now been upgraded to Component 3 H2O).This jacket (but in black) kept me warm and dry in Alaska, so I am glad I have it with me again. Just in case I am facing some serious downpour or icy cold winds, the light weight Rain jacket Barrier 2 will be an extra layer to keep me dry.

On top of my jacket, I wear the Trail vest. I was so fortunate to be able to be one of the first people to test out the trail vest. And I have not looked back ever since. I love this vest because it carries my hydration pack, low in the vest so it doesn’t strain my back and I am using every pocket on the side and the front to keep some cash, my Garmin Inreach and my earplugs case. I am a fan!

The Trousers Continent are pants that can be worn over the boots, to make sure water doesn’t run into my boots from the top, but if I want, I can also snuggle them inside the boot.

This season I have the Expedition GTX boots for the first time, that now have a Gore Tex membrane and are also a little easier to step into - I love these!

I have two different gloves with me, for warm weather and cold weather. If temperatures are great, I wear the Dirt Series Massif Gloves and when things get chilly, I use my battery powered heated Liberty H2O Heated Gloves.

When I arrived in England, I started wearing the Jacket Territory 2 and Coast Gloves. The gloves have the biggest range in temperatures I’ve ever had. Good in 46 degrees heat in Pakistan and still good at a few degrees above zero!

Luggage system - Mosko Moto

Why change a winning formula? I’ve been using the Mosko Moto reckless 80 for 5 years already - and still love it. This season, I am using the brand-new 4.0 version, which has some great improvements in terms of buckles and the main plate on which the bags are mounted. I am impressed.

The total volume that I carry in the reckless 80L Revolver (V4.0) is 84 liters: 2 dry bags of 25 liter each, 1 stinger bag 22L bag, 2 removable 4L dry bags and 2 Molle pouches.

For the tankbag, I chose the Hood tankbag again. I like how much space this bag has and the easy access to it. It’s the perfect place to keep camera batteries because I am changing those a lot during the day!

Helmet

This season I have become an Airoh ambassador. I am using the Commander 2 helmet which is a bit lighter than the helmets I had before and I really love the built in sun visor that I use a lot. I can keep my main visor clear, instead of tinted which I had with my other helmets, which means that I can ride in the dark without issues and when it is sunny I use the sun visor.

Navigation system - Tablet

When I raced the Baja Rally in Mexico, I met rally racer Willem Avenant and he developed this tablet to use for digital roadbook rallies.  I like that it’s just android so you can put apps on it and use opensource navigation apps for navigation (like OSMand). So you won’t be restricted to Garmin maps for example. Here is the link to his website: The Rally Tab

Unfortunately, on my last day in Türkiye, I didn't tie the tablet on properly and it fell off and broke. From then on, I used my phone for navigation.

And that’s it, my most important pieces of gear that I am wearing and using for this Season of adventures!

Dear Noraly, If you contact Moritz, Can he not send you a complete rear shock assembly?
Then one can just do upper & lower attachment bolts, instead of rebuild kit? easier & swap
quicker! When I was at M/Cy. school in Az.(2006-08,-Honda,kawasaki,suzuki,YAMAHA!)
they showed us a data base that shows what different bikes use same part,(manufacturing
is cheaper!). if Moritz gets you this Info you can find replacement New(O.E.M.)used(Junkyard),
Less downtime! & all of us won't miss you as much! put bike on stand, suspension unloaded,
& is fairly easy! Download bike manual from internet, if uneasy 'bout procedure!!
Love your Moto/Vids! Please be CAREFUL as can! Ride YOUR ride at Your pace is SAFEST!!
"Love y"all sooo much! LIVE ta Ride again, please!!"
Salut a' tous! Hi ta all your Moto/mates!

Hello Noraly,
I'm very new to adventure motorbiking.
May I asked you how you fixed the tire deflation shown on your latest video "Am I cursed? No end to my streak of BAD LUCK in Mongolia |S8, EP131"?

Do you carry a spare tube? Which size? 19"? (runs in the back and front wheel)
How many spare tubes do you carry? Which quality (standard or lightweight)?
Would only clue an stickers be sufficient?
From where to get new spare tubes on the journey?
Yours Holger

It relieves me that you are well equipped and prepared for your grueling travels! When I used to ride (nothing as adventurous as you do!), I favored over-outfitting myself. On balmy summer days, people would see my armored Cortech jacket and remark, "Aren't you hot?" The answer was always yes.... though less than a case of road rash. :(

Hi Noraly,

Possible candidate for Ten Questions is former Audi Sport Customer Racing boss Romolo Liebchen, who took the long way to the Bathurst 12 hour race in Australia, on BMW R80 G/S Paris-Dakar (1996).

His route took in Germany (July 2025), Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kurdistan, China, Tibet, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia.

He talked to Greg Rust for Rusty's Garage podcast (17th Feb '25) about the trip:

Cheers, Noraly!
First, amazing adventures and most important, your cheerful and optimistic attitude (at least in front of your public…). In relation to your navigation apparatus, I am curious to know which are your map sources for secondary, dirty non paved roads. I think once you mentioned Maps.me…
Tks in advance, keep on moving and a big beijo, and thumbs up, always!

Hallo Noraly,

Hi Noraly,

I started watching your channel about a year ago with my husband. One of my co-workers recommended it to me because I also love to ride my motorcycle in the mountains.

I live in British Columbia, Canada the closest you came to my home town was when you were in Creston, I am about an hour and a half from there in a small town called Nelson.

I signed up for your academy because for fun in my spare time, I like to make video's about all of my adventures in the Kootenays (my home region in BC).

I hope you know that your you tube video's are not only inspiring, but also empowering. You show women what we are capable of, you show us all how to be light in the world in the way that you interact with the people you meet. I believe it helps the viewers better understand the people of the world. It gives me hope, because sometimes the world is presented in a way that is hard, but whether intentional or not, your channel brings hope and shows us the beautiful side of humanity.

I love how when I watch I learn more about the earth, because of your geologist background, and I learn about other countries and their culture, places I may never get to see but now I feel I have had a little bit of an experience there. I work in health care, and I know your channel brings the world into people's homes in a way that means a lot to those who don't have the ability to travel.

Thank you for doing all of this, I can only imagine how hard you work to make it all happen for us. You travel alone but really you have millions of people with you, must be pretty surreal.

Thank you again. I am a loyal fan and subscriber.

Hi Noraly, I haven't seen a video on Wednesday night of you. I gather you are in Mongolia right now. I know I'm being ridiculous. just a little worried now with the war that just started. I'm thinking it shouldn't affect you too much, although you would feel really sad for the friends you made earlier on in your trip. I'm feeling this sinking feeling about all of this. Because of your videos I see the real faces in my mind. I just wish leaders of the nations could see them too. wishing all the best in your travels.

Really enjoyed this breakdown of your Season 8 gear. It’s great to see how you balance durability, comfort, and practicality for long-distance riding. Posts like this are super helpful for riders planning their own adventures.
