A new season of Itchy Boots: Season 8! This season is going to be an interesting one - mostly because I only have a vague idea about what my final destination will be, and an even vaguer idea of how to get there. That makes for tricky planning in terms of gear, so for now I have focused on the weather conditions I am expecting for the first leg of the journey, and take it from there.
In this blog I am sharing the gear & equipment that I’ll carry with me this season.
Clothing - REV’IT!
I’ve been a REV’IT! Ambassador for many years now and I absolutely love the Dirt Series line of adventure clothing. This gear is lightweight, comfortable and flexible and CE certified so that means it’s safe to wear on tarmac too.
This season I am wearing the new body protector: the Nucleus Protector jacket. Because I will be crossing some high mountains, I am bringing the Component 2 H2O jacket. This jacket (but in black) kept me warm and dry in Alaska, so I am glad I have it with me again. Just in case I am facing some serious downpour or icy cold winds, the light weight rain jacket will be an extra layer to keep me dry. This is the upgraded Smock Barrier which REV’IT will release later in the year.
On top of my jacket, I wear the trail vest, which I have been using for quite some time now. The back pocket has a water reservoir, so I can drink easily while riding and the big pockets are great to keep some important things handy.
The Trousers Continent are pants that can be worn over the boots, to make sure water doesn’t run into my boots from the top, but if I want, I can also snuggle them inside the boot.
This season I have the Expedition GTX boots for the first time, that now have a Gore Tex membrane and are also a little easier to step into - I love these!
I have two different gloves with me, for warm weather and cold weather. If temperatures are great, I wear the Dirt Series Massif Gloves and when things get chilly, I use my battery powered heated Liberty H2O Heated Gloves.
Luggage system - Mosko Moto
Why change a winning formula? I’ve been using the Mosko Moto reckless 80 for 5 years already - and still love it. This season, I am using the brand-new 4.0 version, which has some great improvements in terms of buckles and the main plate on which the bags are mounted. I am impressed.
The total volume that I carry in the reckless 80L Revolver (V4.0) is 84 liters: 2 dry bags of 25 liter each, 1 stinger bag 22L bag, 2 removable 4L dry bags and 2 Molle pouches.
For the tankbag, I chose the Hood tankbag again. I like how much space this bag has and the easy access to it. It’s the perfect place to keep camera batteries because I am changing those a lot during the day!
Navigation system - Tablet
When I raced the Baja Rally in Mexico, I met rally racer Willem Avenant and he developed this tablet to use for digital roadbook rallies. I like that it’s just android so you can put apps on it and use opensource navigation apps for navigation (like OSMand). So you won’t be restricted to Garmin maps for example. Here is the link to his website: The Rally Tab
And that’s it, my most important pieces of gear that I am wearing and using for this Season of adventures!
Hi there, hope you still are on a good and safe way through Iran and Iraq ! Just one question: Do you know Krikko from Sweden? She is riding also alone all the way from Northern Sweden down to Nepal. She also got some probs changing from Iraqi Kurdistan to Federal Iraq, but all was good, actually she's in Northern India (Krikkos Adventure). Maybe you can contact her for some good exchange? Kind Regards from cold and rainy Cologne, Ulf
It’s been a while since the Erbil visit and I hope things started lining up again. You’ve somehow continued to make videos in spite of everything and I for one appreciate your dedication to your followers. I know there are days you’d like to call in sick to work and take a day off. I hope 2025 finds you well and enjoying the sites and scenery as you proceed on your journey to Japan. I know part of being a You Tuber is to keep your followers interested and you certainly do an exemplary job. Thanks for your hard work and dedication. Looking forward to June when my copy of your book arrives and to the new one you are writing.
Hi Noraly,
Happy New Year, I sure hope 2025 is a good one for you!!
Take care,
Larry
Dear Noraly,
As a licensed Mechanic(AUTO)circa 1982' (offroad-MOTO-riden' since 1973')Always were advised to replace complete harness
(O.E.M.), ONLY for warranty purposes! You can certainly repair on own machine(Solder or Bullit connecters like O.E.M.)!
As YOU have Approval/Veto power! MANY offroaders have repaired/modified their own machines! If you reconnect SAME colored
wires you should reacquire ALL your abilty to Lect' start/Run-kill switch etc. A Small D.V.M.(Digital{Hi-impedance 1 Mega ohm}Volt-ohm meter is invaluable & cheap, under $25.00 often, invaluable & an' will NOT harm ANY circuit electronics). NEVER use Ohm-resistance function on LIVE circuit,(Disconnect NEG.BATT. terminal or Key off!). Get wire stripper & some 18-20ga wire if can, if need to lengthen short wires, do not strip wires with pocket knife! Solder connections will not vibrate apart but Most M./Cycles came with bullit connections since beginning! Water resistant only tho'! (do NOT drop bike in puddle!). Kill Switchs are mostly short to ground type NOT open circuit to Kill engine! OFF-roaders OFTEN employ foot on brake & release clutch to kill engine!! Do NOT need to touch wires! Will NOT harm ignition since advent of electronic ignition(no point & condensor.). Hi-Voltage "Secondary" wire(plug wire) Do NOT touch while running! All others are low power12V! Will not harm/shock you. You can certainly do yourself repair in 30min. or less! Moritz may be ONLY source for Harness 'cause of bike age!! Size an' weight of Frankie is to your advantage in case of theft, TWO people required probably to steal. Lighter bike one person can lift an' carry away!
Does your bike have a Fork(keyed)Lock? Advantageous if so! Harder to steal! Airtags GREAT idea! however do NOT give away
your security secrets or wire tricks to ALL, for YOUR security!! Fix Bar alignment by front tire between legs held firmly facing rear,
Grab left/right grips & twist hard till aligned right!! Mind your HEALTH, rest when needed(shelter as needed!). Fix bike BEFORE
travels if can! Rain Parka easily acquired anywhere I hope! Careful as you go! NO regrets that way!
"PEACE & LONG life NORALY!" /"LIVE to ride AGAIN! Pls." Love YA! Accidental Missionary!(MOTO/Gospel Ambassador!).
J.f.Seguine Aus,TX. "OFF-Road RULES!!" wish I still had dirtbike, street NOT as fun tho' bike is fast! BLESS y'ALL
Noraly, I’m so glad that you recovered Frankie so quickly and were able to solve most of the issues yourself! I have been with you since the very beginning and I always enjoy every episode. Your positive attitude is fulfilling! I wish you a Happy New Year and safe travels! Ride safe!!
Hope Frankie is doing well after the theft attempt. Putting soldered patch in to fix wiring will be the fastest and best. Total harness replacement in nightmare ish. Friend did it on a customers bike. I hope you had a Marry Christmas where ever you were (loved it when you dressed up Dhanno years ago). Take care & may you blessings continue.
PS How is new helmet working as it was a surprising change?
Hi Noraly!

What's your DRONE?
